There are over 300 miles of North Carolina coastline and many families make yearly visits to these beaches.
Hotels can get you close to restaurants and attractions but some folks are looking to cast off for a bit more adventure.

The vehicle ferry runs from March through December and is by reservation only.

Davis Shore Ferry Service is proud to offer vehicle and
passenger service
to Cape Lookout National Seashore.
Our Ferries leave from Davis, NC to South Core Banks (Great
Island) and return.
Ferry service, Ice, Bait, tackle, and other supplies are
available through Davis Shore Ferry Service.
If you need cabin reservations, the Park Service asks that you make reservations
directly
with them at

Announcement from the NPS:
Both the Great Island and Long Point cabins will
open on Friday, March 26, 2010.
Reservations for the Great Island cabins can be made
through the National Park Service
by calling (252)
728-0942, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday beginning on Monday, January 11,
2010. The Great Island cabins will operate until
December 3, 2010.
Cabin rentals/reservations are
controlled by and made with the National Park Service on Core
Banks South.
Cabins and Gas will be paid for on the Island and not at Davis
Shore Ferry Service.
